La vie en France

(Good clean family fun at a nearby village fair on Sunday - 'snow' made from soap bubbles!)

Oh the glamour. My shopping list for today: general cleaner; candles; paper towels; milk; cauliflower; tinned tomatoes; coffee filters; foil and toothpaste. On one hand we are having a very 'normal' time here - making little meals, going for walks, bossing each other around. On the other hand we are surrounded by beautiful countryside and forest where foie gras and various things confit are sold at every corner. Our bakery is a 1.5 minute walk and our little grocery store half a minute. It is a lovely little existence. The quietest time so far this trip. We will be ready for lots of social interaction when we get back to Furth next week, armed with many French delights.

Today we are walking to Pomerade, 2-3 kms away, to have lunch at the restaurant about which Mary Moody both wrote a book and made a documentary a couple of years ago. It is a country hotel/restaurant that has been open for 100 years plus and run by 5 generations of the same family - it is their life. We may be the only non-French people there, and I will battle through with my rusty French as best I can...

P.S: Oh my goodness - what an amazing place. We have eaten at Chez Jeanne twice this week now - not only do you get the most incredible 5 course lunch for 12.50 (including a LITRE of good red house wine for two people), but the atmosphere is so warm and friendly, like being welcomed into someone's home - they work so hard! Lovely ladies, all. Mme Murat is next to me in this pic, her daughter Sylvie, to her right, now manages the restaurant - she is the fifth generation to do so.
