Relaxed in France

Howdy doody. Not tired anymore. Well, a little because it is 12.15, but not in the way I was last post! (The Alhambra was fabulous, btw.)

We had a crazy flight back up on Monday to Frankfurt from Jerez de la Frontera in Spain (see Conrad's post: one drunk and disorderly guy taken off before the flight could leave and then several more en route. Poor flight attendants - note to self, always take morning flights on Ryan Air). We took our just-purchased jamon iberico with its black hoof still intact (as is the Spanish way) on board with us - in a bag, but I was still very aware of the hoof and felt a bit odd, specially coming from an extremely bio-security conscious country such as NZ!
It is a gift for our lovely friends in Germany, with whom we've been staying - not my usual duty-free purchase.

After a good sleep in the BB hotel across from Hahn airport, we picked up our bag of winter clothes and got on a flight down to Montpellier. The little people are coping so well with all this crazy change - climates, countries, languages and food. It has just become normal and it is almost as if they don't even notice it. Hopefully that is a good thing! Developing resilience, and all that.

We walked out of Montpellier airport yesterday into beautiful sunshine. Nice! Took off in our car towards Carcassonne, back to our favourites hostel Sidsmums, where we stayed back in October. The children were so happy to be back there with the friendly volunteers Jo-anne and Ian and most excellent dog Georges.

Two nights there getting back into French mode (including one night spent vomiting for me - bad salmon sandwich en route - eeuw) and we were off again to our much anticipated home for the next ten days in Frayssinet le Gelat.

And what a home it is - the gorgeous French home of Australian author Mary Moody. Do stay here if you ever come remotely near this part of France. In fact even if you don't. It is wonderful. My friend Max lent me one of Mary Moody's books last year and I ended up reading her trilogy describing time here and back in Australia over the last few years - great reads. So I looked up her website and here we are!

We haven't done much yet except settle in, enjoy the peace and quiet and make yummy meals from the local produce, but tomorrow we'll be out and about.

I'm also spending a lot of evening time trying to sort out our slightly complicated travel between Shanghai and Pusan in January for the wedding of the lovely Bernard (Conrad's brother) and Su-Jin. Sweet, sweet couple - can't wait to see them again,

We will make it to Pusan, but it is taking many emails around the world to sort out the logistics of what looked initially like a straightforward hop between asian countries...Beats the dreadful French dramas on TV though!
: )
