Well it has been a while since I have posted. We are in almost the normal swing of life here in NYC - albeit staying in a gorgeous, elegant, luxurious apartment on Park Avenue with Peggy! It is wonderful to be back here, and we have had such a warm welcome - the children are in heaven. We arrived Wednesday morning after an OK flight across the US (only left an hour late...) and our lat couple of days with Gwen et al in LA. We made a bit of an embarrassing mistake getting the bus to the airport (via UCLA) - we got on it going the wrong way and so we only JUST got to the airport in time to check our bags in, though it didn't matter as our flight was delayed in the end. Phew.
Peggy had kindly organised a car to collect us, which was a relief not only because it was a luxury town car, but also because it tool around an hour to get here due to traffic - would have been a very expensive taxi ride, and we hadn't really had any sleep (the children were fine this time though - yay for the extra seat beside me!).
I must admit I did drink the coffee - they serve Starbucks on the plane! Hmm, coffee - probably shouldn't get me started, but Wellingtonians you should know this: good espresso coffee is not at all the norm here in this wonderful foodie city - the only lattes you'll find easily are at Starbucks and are very weak, and the norm is brewed coffee, even at the posh places. It is generally good and strong, but not what we are used to being so standard at home. I guess time is part of it - faster to just pour and go - and a lot cheaper. A big 16oz strong cup of coffee from the fabulous gourmet garage one block up from here is $1.95 compared with $3.25 for a weak latte at Starbucks. Conrad has been on the hunt but is coming to accept the reality of the filter here : ) OK - enough about the coffee for now!
Day one we stayed in the neighbourhood. We went to the playground at 96th and Lexington and Hen got completely soaked playing under the sprinklers and having crazy water fight with his new black and hispanic friends - he didn't want to leave! Then it was off for man haircuts from the uzbekhistani barbers one block up...
